Happy Teacher’s Day
May 16, 2009
Heroes unsung,
Are these educators.
Perhaps they figured
Prominently in
Your school days.
They might have spent hours
Encouraging you when you were down
And they might even have
Chastened you when your
Hubris had got the better of you.
Even when they appeared unkind
Rest assured they always had your interest
Securely locked in their hearts.
Dare we forget them this day,
A flame that has enlightened
You and me in some small way?

Hmmm…thus speaks the sage in the cool confines of a venerable institution, far from the heat and grime of crowded classrooms, menial tasks (like jamuan and more jamuan), painful sores from pesky sandflies during BIG, mountains of assignments to juggle with, and endless threats of MQA, ISO and every other acronym you may think of.
Higgins: That’s the beauty of the teaching vocation. The stress that is put on them ensures that the educators remain constantly on their toes. No wonder they are always alert and are blessed with a good memory. And in your case, age doesn’t seem to have a hold on you. Must be the constant running around that keeps you fit and trim.

Shouldn’t it be Teachers’ Day?
Higgins: From the various sites that I’ve been to, I’ve come to this conclusion. As a day that we commemorate, it’s known as Teachers’ Day. However as a form of greeting, it’s Happy Teacher’s Day. I suppose the reason being each teacher wants the greeting to be directed to him/her.
